Gyung Jin Shin was born in Seoul, Korea in 1983. She received a MFA from Columbia University in 2010 and a BFA from Seoul National University. From an early age she was fascinated with inventing devices and she studied robotics for 2 years by herself after completing her undergraduate degree in 2006. Her projects embrace a broad range of media including video, performance, installation and photography. Her projects have recently broadened interest and are more related to interdisciplinary research, participatory practices and media archaeological approaches.

Her work has been exhibited in the US and Korea at venues including Fisher Landau Center for Arts, New York; Doosan Gallery, New York; Wallach Gallery, New York; Chelsea Art Museum, New York; A.I.R Gallery, New York; Ilmin Museum of Art, Seoul and Seoul Museum of Arts, Seoul. She lives and works in Seoul and Hong Kong, and is an adjunct faculty of new media department at Seoul National University.
