Who is Sabijn Peeters?

Sabijn Peeters born in Tilburg in 1980. Moved to Eindhoven after 1 year and went to the Vrije School where i finished in 1998. I went to the R.O.C to do havo 2 years in one and applied for the design academy where i got accepted. I started the design academy in September 1999 to find out half way that i was pregnant.

I took a year off......

In January 2002 i came back to the Design Academy and chose the direction Man and Identity from which i graduated in January 2006.

Why filmmaking?

Almost everyday appears to me like a movie, when i look around, hearing, smelling, thinking .. I want someone else to be able to experience exactly as i do if only for a few minutes, to share my ideas and feelings that are real to me as yours are real to you.

Anima is about...

Anima is about the belief animism; that is a belief still practiced by "primitive" (close to nature) cultures. They believe in the soul or spirit of inanimate objects and worship them.
Seeing all the waste in western societies, i didn't want to design something new, i'd rather wanted to design a different way of looking to change the course of this waste and uncaring about things in general.
These ideas are very much related to me, at least as a designer... For i am not really a designer of products, i 'd rather design a new world.

Financing your movie?

There was no finance. I worked on it alone.

New Media; a challenge for film makers?

New media is everywhere! I just can't escape and i must say that my computer and the internet have become a great part of my life. I use it to work, communicate and to show my work on my website. And i guess the influence of new media will only get bigger. It's the biggest information source in the world, so it defines a great part of our reality or our "second reality"...

Do films have style, just as some painters have..

Yes i think so, Think about David Lynch, i really admire his work/style.

How would you describe your style?

I don't know if i am experienced enough to describe my own style yet.. Aren't there some critics who can do this for me?

Individual film making or co-operation?

I don't really know since i haven't really worked together with people, but i know there are much more experienced people in many fields than me so it could be very nice to work together i guess.
My specialty would be concept and art directing, i mean that i work mostly in a visual way and not really in time or storylines.

The future...

A mindblowing "real-life" experience for everyone!

Did you ever had another ambition in life than to become a filmmaker?

First i wanted to become an architect, After that i wanted to become a fashion designer.
For the final presentation of de Vrije School i made my own fashion show.
After that i heard about the Design Academy in Eindhoven and i decided to go there.
Only in my third year i discovered video as a way to communicate my ideas, and then i graduated!
If i could choose another study now i would really like to go to the film academy. But i guess i just have to keep learning myself now..

Digital or classic?

Well i don't really have much of a choice here, since i worked with photo's.. Thousands.. Which is horrible to do the analogue way, i borrowed the camera from a good friend.. For video i just have my 5 years old dv camera.. Although i hope in the future to be capable to buy something more professional!
