Special program: Balkan Cinema
The program consists of works from talented young filmmakers from the Balkans. The works that have been selected originate mostly from Bosnia Herzegovina, a country which has, in the last several years, given us some excellent artists and filmmakers.
We want to give these filmmakers from Bosnia Herzegovina an opportunity to show their work worldwide and to stimulate the independant cinematography in a country still coping with tremendous economical and political problems.
The films are from different genres, though each one speaks about the problems people are facing daily.
LejlaBelmaDotCom is a story about homosexualism in a society where this subject is still a taboo.
Mostar Sevdah Reunion (from the acclaimed filmmaker Pjer Zalica) with its music and stories told by the protagonists leaves nobody untouched, while Symphony for a street musician shows a portrait of a once well respected philharmonic musician from Sarajevo who is forced to play now on the streets in the Netherlands.
To sum it up, Balkan Cinema stands for human stories about special people.
