Hey Animation music video - Behind the scenes

Guy Ben Shetrit Hey is a Sci-fi fantasy journey of a little girl with a special pet friend, a huge toad. Once the girl loses her pet, which drifts in the sky in a form of a balloon, she is going through different adventurous scenarios by chasing it. This is a full 3d animation music video for the song "hey" by eatliz band made by Israeli director Guy Ben Shetrit.

Fifteen people were involved in the process of making the video, all of them top professionals in animation, art and 3D design in Israel. The production pipeline was set up following the principles and workflow of major animation studios.

In order to finish Hey I quit my day job and dedicated a full year of working from home in favor.

The story and art of this video bring together a fantasy world with realistic everyday motifs, some of which are quite unorthodox for today’s common animation world (– a little girl peeing in the street or a sardine that leaps out of the sardine can as it opens, only to be cut in half and its blood smeared as lipstick).

An MTV Art Break, based on "Hey" was made especially for MTV and is broadcasted on MTV networks worldwide.

Hey is a song by Israeli leading alternative band Eatliz, taken from the band's critically acclaimed album "Violently Delicate" which is now offered for free download at Eatliz website.

Guy Ben Shetrit The director of Hey is also the composer and wrote Hey song, screenwriter, producer, executive producer and Supervising Animator.

One scene needed to include liquid, it's the scene where the girl is urinating and you see trail of the urine does down the drain. From my experience in 3D Max, I knew that in order to get a satisfactory outcome, you need to find an expert who knows how to work on liquid in 3D Max software. Due to my limited budget, I couldn't hire someone to do just this scene, so I decided to shoot a real water flow with the equipment I already had. The trail of the urine was filmed by a little home camera by my girlfriend and me in our bathroom. We used water that was colored blue by toilet bowl soap. Meny Hilsenrad from Aiko Studio took it from there and worked on it with After Effect software and gave it the right texture as for the colures, while working with the software's masks.
