Streaming Festival 5th edition - Left Field Award

The Left Field Award has been given to the most prominent artist with visual, conceptual and artistic excellence. The winner was announced on the opening of the festival at the Paardcafe, in The Hague on the 1st December 2010.

Alfredo Hisa - Nearby (9:20, 2010) The jury was impressed by the observational skills of the director. The opening images of hanging laundry from similar windows had us hooked immediately and made us curious. The film contains striking and sometimes surprising images, from the train in the second scene to the glass floor in the second half. The director has a strong sense of composition and his use of the film frame is at times very playful. This film is a reminder to us all to look better at the world around us. To find the extraordinary in the ordinary.

André Waardenburg (1969)

André Waardenburg is a film critic who has been working for the daily newspaper NRC Handelsblad since 2001.
Between 2000 and 2008 he was editor in chief of the film magazine Skrien. He graduated in Film- and Television Studies at the University of Amsterdam, and obtained an MA in Film and Art Theory at the University of Kent, Canterbury.

In 2008 Waardenburg was awarded the Louis Hartlooper prize for film criticism.

Kees Driessen (1971)

Kees Driessen studied psychology for ten years before he eventually decided to become a journalist, through the faculty journal Spiegeloog (which previously had also inspired Hans Beerekamp).

Driessen contributed to filmfestival journals across the country (Utrecht, Rotterdam, Amsterdam), as editor, executive editor and managing editor, which led him to the filmmagazine Skrien, where after many years of dedicated service he witnessed the magazine's disappearance into the abyss.
In the nick of time, he left this sunken ship, so that, whilst still freelance, he could continue writing for Vrij Nederland and report on film.

He also wrote, and writes, here and there (Wordt Vervolgd, IS, Ad Valvas, Oor magazine) on film, culture and other things, including a contribution to the anthology Moralitijd on privacy (he admitted to not understanding the title either).
As managing editor, he helped publish books on Fons Rademakers and on The pioneers of Dutch cinema.

Mariska Graveland (1972)

Mariska Graveland is an editor for the Filmkrant and the annual reference book Filmjaarboek, and writes about film since 1996 - including the Filmkrant, nrc.next and the Winkler Prins Yearbook.

In addition to this, she screens documentaries for the IDFA documentary festival, and became involved in the online movie platform The Milkbar. She has been a managing editor for the books mm² and FILM³, which focus on Dutch experimental cinema.

In 2008 she was the editor of the VPRO's IDFA News journal.
She also wrote about film for Vrij Nederland, and composed the filmbook "The brothers of Sister".
Prior to writing about film, she worked as a projectionist and programmer for the Amsterdam movie theater Kriterion.
