Elena Knox and Sean Gaji
Elena Knox makes live art, performance, video, sound and text. Her works propose and disrupt embodiments of gender. She grew up in classical music and vaudeville, made it to the ‘top 10 girl-on-girl screen kisses of all time’ with Kate Winslet, and expects one day to be a bag lady.
Knox’s performances and videos have been presented in Australia, Europe, USA and UK. Showings include Akademie der Künste Berlin (Poesiefestival), Women and Theater Program (NYU), Society for Film and Media Studies (Philadelphia), Façade Videofestival (Bulgaria), Sydney Underground Film Festival, Magdalena Project & Centre for Performance Research (Wales), Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Music for the Eyes (Sydney Opera House), Living Museum of Fetishized Identities (La Pocha Nostra) and Athens Video Art Festival. They have been funded by the New Media, Theatre, Music and Literature Boards of the Australia Council for the Arts.
Knox’s electronic pop duo Actual Russian Brides is released on Brigade Music, Berlin. She is a doctoral candidate in Media Art at the College of Fine Arts, Sydney.
