Who is João Ricardo?

I was born in Porto, Portugal. Started my musical activity at the age of 6 with piano studies, which lasted until I was 12. Then I moved with my parents to the middle east and only got back to music in my late teens. First with bass, then guitar and finally electronics. I did some live sound engineering in a casino and as a freelance live sound operator, but the call was stronger and I got back on track producing my own music (and video, occasionally).

FDS is about...

Rediscovering calm and slowness in today’s fast-changing world. This is an edit of a very intimate live performance, later released by enough records.

Why music making?

It’s second nature...

What kind of music do you make?

Ambient, dub, minimal, glitch, experimental, techno, improvised, groovy, drone, etc.

Is music a big part of your life?

That’s what I live for, for better or for worse.

Did you try to get subsidy?

No. I appreciate my independency.

New Media; a challenge for film/music makers?

Definitely! Let’s give it some time to evolve. It’ll be the future format.

Individual film/music making or co-operation?

Whatever is on the table...

Plans and dreams...

I plan to live long enough to realize some of my dreams.

Did you ever have another ambition in life than to become a music maker?

Yes. Fortunately those other ambitions were never accomplished.

Could you finish this sentence "You know you have a good composition when..."?

The audience comes back for more (be it live or recorded).

Which one is more important to you, the camera or editing?

The editing. It’s not about what you use but how you use it...
