The winnerAlfredo Hisa - Nearby (9:20, 2010)
The jury was impressed by the observational skills of the director. The opening images of hanging laundry from similar windows had us hooked immediately and made us curious. The film contains striking and sometimes surprising images, from the train in the second scene to the glass floor in the second half. The director has a strong sense of composition and his use of the film frame is at times very playful. This film is a reminder to us all to look better at the world around us. To find the extraordinary in the ordinary.

Nominations, in no particular orderThe Mind from Nowhere - Dalibor Baric
The alternation of adapted images, ‘noise' and silence on the soundtrack, that also incorporates film dialogue, creates a surreal stream of consciousness in this well made found footage film.
Helping Johnny Remember - Ashleigh Nankivell
An old, public domain educational film is processed by the director, with some help of a peculiar special effect, into an eerie horror film about group pressure.
2 Inches to the Right - Matt Frodsham and Mat Lloyd
Well made animation combines a protest poem with strong imagery.
The Archive - Sean Dunne
A compelling documentary portrait, sometimes sad, sometimes funny, of a man with a passion. An almost blind record collector who wants to sell his immense collection, but finds no one is interested.
Congratulations to all the artists and audience with a special thank you note for the jury for making this first competition possible.
