Many developments in our society focus on the individual. Yet we all still feel the need to be a part of something, to have a sense of belonging. Not necessarily for the rest of your life, but sometimes just for a while. Artikraak wants to create a communal meeting point in a disused building. Intrinsically linked to the location is the transient nature of the project, which creates a fascinating dynamic.
The project will take place during a transitional phase, a continuum that tells many stories in itself. There is no reason for equipping the building for the project, the process of using the building is the actual project. What can you do, and what do you want to do as an autonomous artist, designer, performer, researcher or scientist with a context such as this?
A building consists of several aspects: Architecture, location, atmosphere, future, history, etc.
The context of the building serves as the source of inspiration for expression and automatically creates a common ground. People, visions and expressions that seem to have no similarities at first will be inadvertently linked.
Artikraak is looking for new encounters, cross-overs and energy and wants to provide space for this, thereby stimulating and encouraging it.
Artikraak sees itself as a platform that facilitates collaboration. Artikraak organises events and aims to stimulate these encounters before and after the event. We want to emphasize that it is not just about the event; the process is important.
