Miriam Homem De Mello is a photographer from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Married to videoartist Alfredo Takashi Hisa. Together they exhibited the Land of escaping thoughts in Stiftung Brasilea in Basel, Switzerland in 2010.

I wonder around the cityscape doubting if it is real. I cannot believe life exists in fact. I guess the world feels the same about me. It is a relation of absolute distrust.
I made a habit of watching the streets and finding in them imaginary scenes and landscapes. Do they exist? Have I created them? Do other people see? It doesnt matter, as everything is equally delighting. I relate to them as I do with anyone else who approaches me in order to greet me, or to mourn or to nag, or even to reassure we have met before. No, I do not know them. And they dont me either.
We live in common insulation, through floating bubbles that occasionally meet without us having to compromise our comforting integrity masks.
Through photography, I learnt a new dimension. The dimension of the framing. My relationship with the world is now inevitably struck by this new parameter. Everything is a matter of angle of approach, zoom intensity or chromatic correction. It made possible for the banal to become sublime and vice-versa. As if the real is not compulsory anymore. It is just a matter of choice.
That is my choice, I believe. To populate the city with zooms and crops, proffering my own life with a more accurate framing.

Gianfranco_Foschino__Time_fragments

TIME FRAGMENTS

The singularity of Gianfranco Foschinos videos lies on the landscape sensibility of his voyeuristic act.

He confronts us to specific and common situations. I say common , because they dont respond to any planning nor they contain any interest in pre-determined screenwriting. Only to the choice of the frame.

Within a fixed and steady camera, no effects and post-production treatment, he hides the eye that observes a minimal situation in popular, and often, rural landscapes.

Some sort of postcard photography in digital video, real time, natural movements, own light and cinematic framing.
His videos are silent (lets say it is the only thing the artist manipulates in his work). This silence connects us directly with painting, enclosing aesthetic and historical aspects of that discipline, creating and exposing a natural sensitivity with the visual and at the same time, separating the narrative from the action or cinematic function.

It is the framing of space, working as documentary illustration, both abstract and concrete.

Small movements reveal infinitely unimaginable contexts, and evoke any place in the world, making of his work, universal pieces.
This artist (educated under Cinemas principles), shows and proves us with his videos, the beauty and simplicity of reality , and allows us to see time in different ways (depending on the images he chooses). We could call that pictorial window or time fragments , letting emerge the mixture of photography, movement and painting.
