Andreas Mehringer - Iets

3:00, 2006

A beautiful summer day in Amsterdam. An old man sits on a bank close to a busy intersection... Time passes... A young and busy businessman locks his bike close to the old man and leaves... time passes... the bike has disappeared, only the front wheel is left... time passes... The businessman comes back and is upset about the loss of his bike. Disappointed he sits down on the bank next to the old man. Their eyes meet. The old man points to the traffic lights... There is a smiley painted on the green light. The young man smiles.

Check for more info www.corazona.org

Your film is about?
A mixture between my experiences with bikes in the Netherlands and the Utopia that somehow everything won’t be that bad in the end.

How did you start with film? And do you have an educational background in art or film?
I had ideas for shortfilms. A good way of getting rid of these ideas is to make them real, do the films, forget about the ideas and move on .

I studied composition.

Could you explain how you work, what themes or concepts and what is important to you?
I am interested in our societie’s lifestyle. In a playful and humoristic manner my work points out its contradictions and absurdities.

How did the film come about? Everything (carefully) planned or more intuitive?
A mixture of both.

How do you finance your projects (by yourself, sponsors or subsidy)?
My films are no-budget films. Every cost is covered by myself, but none of the project would have been possible without the support of friends and colleagues!

What is your next project about?
"Musikusvie Ouverture", Music and Shortmovies by Andreas Mehringer

"Iets met F", (Something about bikes!) Check www.iets-met-f.nl for a first example!
