InterviewYour film is about?
Our video, Virtuous Reality, is an amalgam of visuals stemming from the way in which the video was produced. A digital pass-the-buck of motion images, GIFs, and glitches pertaining to virute & vice.How did you start with film? And do you have an educational background in art or film?
The video was a reaction to a comment that Ryan Seslow left on the Vandalog website regarding experimental sequential videos. I reached out to him in hopes of collaborating in some way. Virtuous Reality is the result of that contact.
I have a background in Philosophy and Fine Art, studying at the College of Charleston (SC) and the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Ryan Seslow teaches Art at CUNY, LIU, SVA, and Iona College.Could you explain how you work, what themes or concepts you use and what is important to you?
I shoot video on a VHS-C handheld camcorder, edit the footage in-camera by recording over data until the video is in a final form. At that point, I send the video to Ryan, where he shoots and edits. This process goes back and forth a few times, and then I add the sound. Its a process dedicated to analog functioning and digital proliferation.How important is sound in film, and if you use sounds, do you create your own or use existing?
The sound defines the rythym of the video. Its the heartbeat. The chaos or the calm.
