Your film is about?
Intimate imitation and dependence of an elderly mother and her daughter
How did you start with film? And do you have an educational background in art or film?
Found the moving image from the still image - found the still image through architecture
Studied all the previously mentioned mediums (in the reverse order, of course) and some others
Received a BFA and MFA from two fancy-shmancy art schools
Could you explain how you work, what themes or concepts and what is important to you?
Gesture, longing, distance (physical, emotional) familial relations, communication
Where do you get your ideas or influences from?
People watching, literature, anthropology
How does the title relate to the work, and how do you find a fitting title?
The title is something that perhaps one of the subjects said to the other before they headed out
Fitting titles are difficult
How does content relate to the form of your work?
Content drives form
How important is sound in film, and if you use sounds, do you create your own or use existing?
Sound and silence are essential
Sound is usually taken from the footage, but sometimes the imagery will propel sound creation
How do you finance your projects (by yourself, sponsors or subsidy)?
Me me me, but sponsors are welcome
Nowadays everyone with the right equipment can create videoart, good, bad or ugly?
All of the above
What possibilities of the web are yet to be explored? Which dangers do you see ahead?
Dangers? The addiction that most have to it. Moderation and the internet doesn’t exist. (myself inculded)
Video broadcasting platforms on the internet, why or why not?
Ambivalent. One minute yes and the next no. Just as the ubiquity of video equipment is good, bad, and ugly, video broadcasting platforms showcase videos from all of the aforementioned categories. Do viewers make a distinction?
In what category would you place your work; cinema or art. And is there a difference between those?
Art
It seems that cinema usually involves a team of artists. Cinema doesn’t necessarily look to be showcased in a gallery/museum or group exhibition. Cinema is generally only shown in single-channel situations.
Art can involve individual artists or teams. Art normally is showcased in galleries/museums and/or group shows, and additionally (this is an added plus to be in the
How important is the reaction to your film by the audience?
I hope that people have a reaction. That is important.
What reaction, is up to the viewer.
