Who is JMJ van de Made?
I have always had the urge to tell stories
In all kinds of ways, next to that i like to observe my surroundings and are
Curious of it. I did social studies where i discovered video as a means to tell
Stories or to get an idea across. After this I went to a theatre-movement-circus
Course in the UK and since then I have been making short films;
Performance-installations with the BIDA- collective and are part of 2 bands
(GHIU and TELEDUBBIES).
Your films are about...
Things i see and experience in the society we live in, so of course it is
Linked with my life, sometimes personally sometimes how I observe my
Surroundings.
Financing your movie?
I didn’t try to get subsidy, myself and friends participate in my films and i
Don’t have to pay them because they do it for fun. I finance my movies by myself,
Because i like the restriction of no budget ;it is part of the way i like to work
New Media; a challenge for film makers?
I wouldn’t know i just like to make films and have very limited contacts on the
Internet with film sites etc. I find that very quickly you get an overdose of
Information when you are on a mailing list or whatever, but I like the fact that
I can find info on other film fests and collectives and all that.
Do your films have style, just as some painters have?
I have pictures in my head of how I want the movie to look like and through
Experimenting with an editing program i try and archive those images.
Also do I sometimes prefer 8mm one time hi8 the next time and dv the third time;
It all depends on the pictures in my head and the atmosphere and feel these
Images give me.
Individual film making or co-operation?
I like to work together with others if the project requires it but I also like to work on my own when possible. I think my speciality is the concept, cause I think of the story, but I also do
All the editing because that is part of the concept, so is the directing and
Sometimes even the camera work.
