Borrowing from the conventions of nature documentary and cinema, this dual channel piece re-imagines Herring Island, an artificial island on the Yarra River in Victoria, Australia. The work is guided by subtle movements and spatial shifts, revealing fragments of the island and its construction, in micro detail. An eerie presence of human activity and ambiguous formations surface during the video, suggesting a built environment. The viewer is left to imagine the island as they see it, but invited to ponder the undercurrents of history that preceded the transformation of the island into a conserved habitat.
