Interview

What is Easy living pt. 2, “morning” about?
Easy Living pt. 2, "Morning" is the second part of “Easy Living”, a video series by Boyd Richard. Created with the artist’s collection and found video, “Morning”, describes the “Easy Living” byproducts of torture and violence.

How does the title relate to the work, and how do you find a fitting title?
Easy Living, as a series, is investigative of the American state of mind--a temperment ensconcsed by a rich consumer foam. Part 2. "Morning" combines images of political and commercial interest in torture and war.

Where do you get your ideas or inspiration from?
Today I think that my ideas are coming most from dedicated periods of my time that I can spend listening to them, unplugging. As iphone-media has become increasingly pervasive it seems as though the information and messages I get from them are in opposition with inspiration or, worse, transform the output of ideas into a mobile vacuum.

What possibilities of the web are yet to be explored?
I don’t think I’m qualified to answer this question. My version of the web is a simple place. I support the idea of the web being a free and open place but a "free and open" web is also very expensive. It would be nice to pay for it with something other than the data that is collected, repackaged and sold at market.

Where would you place your work; cinema or art. And what is the difference between those according to you?
Art. I think context is the primary difference between the two. Cinema, to me, implies a formal setting, a projection, a screening. Whereas art can situate itself without any of that. My work isn’t reliant on any screening conditions, as i see it.

What is your next project about?
I’m currently working on a print series that looks at the history of abstract art and forms of identity for a group show at Planthouse Gallery, NY next summer.
