Caroline Pellet - Ambassadeur Rose Clair

12:10, 2015, Experimental

Gardeners plant flowers on a bridge, then on a traffic circle. You’ll hear them talk about their flower choices, the rules they have to follow, you’ll hear people passing in the street as they gamble or telephone.

Interview

Your film is about?
It’s about flowers and work issues. How what is considered beautiful will be constructed, which aesthetical norms one follows to make something considered beautiful, which choices will one make, and which discourses will gardeners have about these choices and constraints.

How did you start with film? And do you have an educational background in art or film?
This film is a part of a series started with Z.A.C.Z.U.P.L.U, continued with Super Olympia, and ended with this video.

Could you explain how you work, what themes or concepts you use and what is important to you?
My work is mostly a documentary work, I focus on activities related to the act of looking at something; it can be the visual perception itself, the aestetical norms, or the audio and/or visual environment created to make people look at images or art. I also am interested in the notion of artistic value; which criteria is chosen to validate it in an artistic point of view (therefore, I’m also very interested in the notions of amateurism, artcrafts etc...).

How long do you usually work on one project?
It depends.

Do you carefully plan the production process or do you work more intuitive?
It depends.

How does the title relate to the work, and how do you find a fitting title?
For this work, the title is the name of a flower seed. But usually, I find it very hard to find a title.

Where do you get your ideas or inspiration from?
Mostly from written forms.

How important is sound in film, and if you use sounds, do you create your own or use existing?
Sound is very important for me, I mostly use it to go on the opposite of images; like if an image is very majestic, I would like to hear something more prosaic.

How important is the reaction to your film by the audience?
I don’t know

What is your next project about?
I don’t know yet.
