Who is Eileen Botsford?
I am a New Media Public Artist, working internationally. I need the sun and sea on a regular basis in order to cope with long hours in front of the computer.
Why filmmaking?
I found that through film you can capture raw reactions and intimate situations, which is the essence of my communication with my audience. Also film is a very transportable medium, important for reaching wider audiences.
Cycle is about...
Cycle is a raw reflection of the Cycles we go through in life. It is meant to be projected or screened in a public space, and create different reactions to it"s audience which will be directly linked to the environment in which they are viewing it.
Financing your movie?
Everything was raw, even the finance!
New Media; a challenge for film makers?
Since I use new media technology as tools for my work anyway, I find the marriage of film and new media a natural evolution and indeed a creative challenge. However I don"t think it should be a binding marriage! More of an open relationship.
Do films have style, just as some painters have?
My style, in Cycle is "raw" + "direct". However I believe styles evolve as well and I find the challenge lies where we realize we withhold many styles, not just one.
Influences?
My life; my fears, my loves, my excitements.
Which film related websites do you frequent?
I am gradually visiting more and more film making websites, but as my work is not only in film, but mostly new media I am a frequent visitor of Rhizome.
Individual film making or co-operation?
This is project-specific, you can visualize a concept in a sketch on your own, and have a finished piece. But you can also take the sketch and materialize it in to a large scale site-specific installation in a space, where you will need more hands, technical support, advice...
Still, both the sketch and the installation can be finished works which stand important in their own right.
Plans and dreams...
My dream is very much alive today, if I have the privilege to wake up, be healthy and be able to create then I am living a dream already. In the future I plan to always evolve, always create, aim to never give up and live passionately.
Did you ever have another ambition in life than to become a filmmaker?
I am not a filmmaker, I use film. I am an artist, and no I never had another ambition, I knew I was an artist from the age of 3.

You can see examples of my work on my site Ebnefsi but unless its a net based piece, I aim to take the finished work out of the computer. So I notify my mailinglists of my public art installations regularly, so that people get off their bums!
