Interview

Who is Giora Eshkol?
A fine Artist and 3d animation creator

What is Mona lisa about?
Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa in 3d is like creating animated sculpture from a single painting. It is an extreme challenge, especially in symmetry and lighting departments, only key animation was used. This project of my favorite painter only strengthen my conviction that he may be the best ever artist. I did my very best to bring life into his masterpiece and I hope you’ll enjoy this

How did you start with film? And do you have an educational background in art or film?
I started and finished the film alone because it is so hard to create a 3d character from one painting accurately.
I have extensive background in fine art, Illustration and started 3d animation in 1993 Hollywood CA. I learned animation in my work in the Studios there and taught myself film and cinematography and production.

Could you explain how you work, what themes or concepts you use and what is important to you?
I believe that that there is no guarantied formula for success but to have as much knowledge as possible in general, have a talent and keep on working on things that you love the most.

How long do you usually work on one project?
I do short animations from characters that I create projects are usually takes 3-6 month for a 1-3 min of animation

Do you carefully plan the production process or do you work more intuitive?
Because I’m familiar with any aspect of production I can work intuitively on my projects when I do them alone.
When you have help in production you have to carefully plan it so everyone involved have full understanding of the tasks.

How does the title relate to the work, and how do you find a fitting title?
The title in this case is plain, the character is famous thanks to Leonardo Da Vinci

How do you finance your projects (by yourself, sponsors or subsidy)?
By myself

How important is sound in film, and if you use sounds, do you create your own or use existing?
I love to have a professional sound but I had to do do what I did with no budget or studio.

How would you describe contemporary videoart?
I think it’s a great platform for independent artists to be creative and to reach the crowd.

What possibilities of the web are yet to be explored?
I started using the web on 1994 and I believe it’s still in it infancy.
The Sky is the limit.

Did the web changed your view on art, or your career?
No, but it give artists the chance to go directly to the public which is great.

Where would you place your work; cinema or art. And what is the difference between those according to you?
I am a strong believer the the definition of art is Excellence and beyond!!!
So the media is irrelevant what is relevant is how good you do what you do.
Therefore cinema is a media in which excellent in the media are artwork.

How important is the reaction to your film by the audience?
I do only the things I love and paying a big price for this professionally and personally.
So the reaction from the audience is the benchmark to my ability to communicate my art successfully.

What is your next project about?
Working on it!
