Interview

What is La terra mé about?
The documentary is about the deep relationship between the inhabitants of L’Aquila province (central Italy) and their land, an area perturbed by a big earthquake in april 2009. The interviews testify that the ties with the native land are often stronger than natural disasters.

How did you start with film? And do you have an educational background in art or film?
I attended the Rome Griffith Academy in 2007 studying as a movie director.

Could you explain how you work, what themes or concepts you use and what is important to you?
Cinema is the creation of stories through images...so I’m very careful before using dialogue that could be redundant. A good cinema is the creation of visual stories ables to surprise, touch and make the spectators aware.

Where do you get your ideas or inspiration from?
Friends from L’Aquila asked me to show the situation during the year after the earthquake, a period in which national media seemed to forget about the tragedy. I decided to realize this documentary with the aim to give information about the real life in the area and the reconstruction prospectives.

How influential is the reaction to your film by the audience?
I considered the audience reaction just a sign of the commercial impact of a work. I’d like to receive a good feedback by people I appreciate...anyway a good audience reaction is better than a negative one and it could be important to find resources for other projects.
