Marius Rodriguez - niland 1

13:11, 2009

...niland 1 is built on the separating line of both water and air, the center of which is the man in adaptation by a rise of the sea level.

...niland 1 builds new landscapes on the sea between water and tornades currents, a fight for air being interrupted by a mere rise of the water level, allowing the shining of the water surface line...niland 1 tells unreasonably through pictures, lets us imagine events, persists on searching and remains uncertain.

...niland (no land) is an idea conceived by gruppefisch representing a futuristic of how life adapts under the surface of the water.

The artwork is based on climate change and especially the rise in sea levels. Humans change with nature and are in a constant process of micro adaptation whilst on a large scale, Darwinian survival concepts continue to rule. This interdependent relationship makes human cause and effect at once. Within this framework, the intention is to show humans in relationship to the environment and their responsibility in climate change; man adapting to the effects of his own product.

...niland contemplates a new aspect of humankind in changed environmental conditions. These constitute a sub-aquatic environment in fantastic and grotesque imagery, as a consequence of a dramatic rise in sea levels. It represents the struggle of mankind to adapt and transform, to become acclimated to change and manage to survive.

The line separating the elements of air and water is the nucleus of ...niland. It acts as an indicator of the changes in climate caused by man.

In the artwork, images expose different perspectives of water. Above the surface it shows the visible separation of air and water and where this line is traced; below the surface it shows the movement of sea currents and plays with the refraction of light and sub-aquatic landscapes in which the effect caused by the inversion of water and air leaves the surface where the bottom of the sea lies today. This innovative panorama is the view that from below, humankind has of the surface, where new laws of nature are conforming to a new way of life.

...niland aims to relate man to these scenarios with the purpose of showing the vision of the new transformation.
