A Meta- language finds its way into the consciousness of two human beings.
Perplexed, and thrown into action, the energy begins to solidify. A metaphor reigns as one man represents the powerful advancements of technology as the frequency of nature unfolds effortlessly. An absence becomes the force of modern day presence.

Interview

Who is Ryan Seslow?
Ryan Seslow is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in New York.
Working in all mediums Seslow shows his work both nationally and internationally.
“ I am not concerned with making beautiful pleasing pieces of art; I act upon immediacy. I am living and teaching as the process of
Art because I believe that this expands the potential of human creativity.
The artist is the ongoing Art itself. I am here to record the world as I perceive it, Through that process I will give it many tangible forms.”
Ryan Seslow is also an adjunct professor of fine arts teaching studio art courses simultaneously between 4 colleges in NY.

Your film is about?
A Meta- language that finds its way into the consciousness of two human beings.
Perplexed, and thrown into action, the energy begins to solidify as Nature is confronted by all things synthetic. Where are we headed as technology advances with or with out us?

How did you start with film? And do you have an educational background in art or film?
I have an educational backround in visual art. Creating films and video art became another exploratory medium for me to express myself through. It is highly addicting and immediate. Plus with so many internet related venues, it makes exposure relatively just as immediate.

Could you explain how you work, what themes or concepts and what is important to you?
Communication is important to me, both object and subjective. I fall right in between the comprehension of these terms. They are interdependent on each other. I relate my experiences and concepts to how I understand the world I live in. We live on a planet. The planet is bi-polar. This fact is a huge significance! If the earth is bi-polar, then we must have an equal chance of understanding both sides of every whole. Up, Down, Left, Right, Male, Female, Old, Young, Good, Bad, ect...

How does content relate to the form of your film?
Content makes up the juxtoposition of the metaphors I like to use. Sometimes they are subtle, and sometimes they are more experimental. I am the writer and the film maker in my work, and I am also the exploring viewer trying to add to my manual.

How did the film come about? Everything (carefully) planned or more intuitive?
The first step of my process with filmmaking is always Intuitive. I believe in full and total allowance of the human need for creative desire, expression and potential. It lives with in us, and sometimes it finds the right medium of expression all by itself, all we have to do is say yes, and press play, and let the film roll. The next step will define itself in the process. I believe this method is now habitual with in my behaviors.

How do you finance your projects (by yourself, sponsors or subsidy)?
I finance all of my projects by taking responsibility and doing everything myself. I love the whole process from beginning to end.

New Media; a challenge for film makers?
Indeed! Times, techniques, and technology are going to change with us or with out us. As artists we have to adapt and say YES. Evolution allows for better understanding of any subject matter, while creating its language. I am constantly re-defining myself and my work.

How does the internet influence contemporary art in general according to you?
The internet is much more than we could ever dream it is. I feel that we have seen a tiny aspect of its full future potential. It is the greatest surveillance tool ever created.....but, it is also
A metaphor of the universe, where one can find anything and everything, anywhere at anytime.
The internet is a physical representation of the human consciousness and its potential. It will forever change the way we communicate everything. Art is certainly not exempt. In fact, the art world will be making huge adjustments over the next 5 years.

What possibilities of the web are yet to be explored? Which dangers do you see ahead?
Think of the earth being bi-polar, and then think of the 10 billion people simultaneously exisiting and thinking all at the same time. The time is now here where most people are " online or using computers "online or using computers" by the time they are 5 years old.... Anything and everything will happen, and we have seen anything yet! Talkin’ about high ENERGY!!!!

YouTube? Why or why not?
YouTube, ITube, TheyTube, sure why not. Its free, I suppose, well, someone is getting PAID big money? $$$$ so why not expand yourself across the world, you never know who you will connect with.

Does your work often circle the festival circuits, and do you visit festivals regularly?
Yes, I like to circulate the festivals, I like doing the research for them. International festivals seem to really catch my attention these days.

Do you often meet and discuss with other film makers through the internet?
Yes, but I have been crazy busy over the last 3 years, it comes and goes in spurts.

How influential is the reaction to your film by the audience?
Its huge, because I see and feel a part of myself in every viewer. I am the lover of my films and also the hater of them. I am the intellectual concept basher as well as the slacker aesthetic lover.
There is a part of each one of us in everyone and everything.

What is your next project about?
Consumerism!
