Russell Chartier - Confined 10 01 2

3:33, 2009, Video Art

In this piece Chartier explores the sense of confinement that many people feel living in large cities despite the many people around them. This piece was created using manipulated footage shot throughout NYC. Many of the textures and footage used in this piece are feedback loops uplinked to Satellites then down-linked back to Earth. These “feedback loops” were manipulated with various pieces of Broadcast equipment through the looping process. Footage and textures were then further manipulated in the Post Production process. These textures and manipulated footage were woven together to create this piece. In the creation of this piece the composer Botelho and Video Artist Chartier had no prior knowledge of what was to be created by one another and were given only a duration for which to create their independent pieces. These two independent pieces were then put together to create “Confined 10-01-2”.
