Who is Wittwulf Malik?
Since 1976 free-lance work as composer, composer performer, visual artist, performance artist and with experimental multimedia projects. Grants in Germany, Italy and Sweden. Teaching-work at a lot of universities and music academies. Exhibitions at a lot of galleries and museums. Concerts/Performances in nearly all Europaen countries, in Canda and the US.

What is 5 voyages“, op. 156 / 2011 about?
It´s about the joy at nature, water, colors,. ..

How did you start with film? And do you have an educational background in art or film?
After first working with graphical notation I came to the point to work with photography and to combine photography with notation. At one point it was clear when I combine music and visual art that film is the direct medium. So I started experimental film with my own music and my own film- and photo-material.

Could you explain how you work, what themes or concepts you use and what is important to you?
My themes are the basic energies of life.

How long do you usually work on one project?
Some weeks.

Do you carefully plan the production process or do you work more intuitive?
First starting with concepts, ideas, then going on intuitive.

How does the title relate to the work, and how do you find a fitting title?
Mostly the title comes while I am in the work.

Where do you get your ideas or inspiration from?
It´s from my inner progress.

How important is sound in film, and if you use sounds, do you create your own or use existing?
In my films sounds are existentially important, because both, film and music, are directly connected.

How does content relate to the form of your work?
The content generates itself the form.

Where would you place your work; cinema or art. And what is the difference between those according to you?
My work is art work. Art has no purpose, it is free, explaining itself.
